About the event

Child Parent Relational Therapy Skills Class for 7 Weeks

Brynn Fitzer is a new Clinician here at Olympia Therapy.  She has been working with children and youth for over 20 years.  In June, she celebrated the achievement of becoming a Registered Play Therapist.  In addition to working with children, Brynn loves teaching parents skills that decrease meltdowns, soothe chaos in the home and increase children’s self-esteem. This is why Olympia is excited to announce that she will be teaching a Child-Parent Relational Therapy Skills Class this fall.

This Child-Parent Relational Therapy Skills Class will be online.  It is a research-based treatment effective with children experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties.  In this class, Brynn will be teaching you the skills of therapeutic play and the neurobiology behind it.  This will help you understand how and why your child is struggling and give you scaffolding and confidence around what you can do for your child.  The Child-Parent Relational Therapy Skills Class deepens Child Parent relationships and sharpens Child Parent communication skills.  As a result, children build confidence and independence, decrease the intensity of anxiety and experience fewer meltdowns.  Parents will feel less frustration & helplessness and will increase joyful interactions with their child.

The course consists of 2.5 hours of synchronous learning a week and up to another 1.5 of asynchronous learning at home.

Synchronous time will consist of some lecture.  Skills will be practiced and reinforced through, play, roleplay, participants sharing videos, and giving feedback.

Asynchronous time will be split up.  Participants will conduct and record a 30 minutes special playtime with their child.

There will also be homework and reading during this time as well.

This course is perfect for:

  • Parents who have read all the parenting books and feel like nothing has worked. Because we will utilize all that knowledge, you have gained and search for the missing pieces.
  • Parents who have put their children on waiting lists for therapists but your family needs relief now because you will get to be an effective part of your child’s treatment now.
  • Your child is currently in treatment because this course will supplement their current therapeutic work supporting treatment outcomes.
  • The parent who has said, “I try to connect with my kid, but all they want to do is play video games,” because this course is all about connection.

This course is NOT appropriate for families currently experiencing:

  • Addiction
  • Domestic Violence
  • A High Conflict Divorce.
